Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) recorded a strong growth in passenger traffic and cargo movement in November 2024, with cargo segment registering double digit growth.

CSMIA facilitated a total of 4.77 million passengers during the month, comprising 3.40 million domestic travellers and 1.37 million international travellers. This surge is attributed to increased demand during the festive season and the airport's expanding network.

The airport also handled 27,200 air traffic movements (ATMs) during the month, with 19,696 domestic flights (including freighters) and 7,504 international flights (including cargo freighters).

Cargo operations at CSMIA showed an increase in volume, with 71,046 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo processed in November. This represents an 11% growth compared to 63,924 MT handled in the same month last year. Of the total cargo processed, 18,653 MT was domestic, while 52,393 MT was international.

CSMIA is operated by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), a Public-Private Partnership between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), holding a 74% stake, and the Airports Authority of India, holding the remaining 26%. AAHL attributed the impressive growth in performance to its operational efficiency.

"As CSMIA approaches the close of 2024, it remains committed to maintaining its position as a leader in global aviation. With its focus on delivering world-class services and expanding connectivity, the airport continues to set benchmarks in operational excellence and customer satisfaction," the CSMIA said in a statement.

According to statement, the movement of automobile products saw a 32% increase in November, contributing to the growth in cargo operations. The airport's busiest day of the month was November 27, when it handled 941 flights in a single day. Among domestic destinations, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Goa accounted for the highest passenger volumes. International routes with the most traffic included Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and London.

Key domestic cargo included consolidated shipments, engineering goods, and postal mail, while international consignments were dominated by automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and electronics.

CSMIA has been recognized as the 'Best Airport over 40 million passengers' in Asia Pacific region by Airports Council International's (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards last year. And it won the "Best Airport by Size and Region" in the over 40 million passengers per year category for fifth consecutive years till 2022.
