Apple is working on a new version of Siri, driven by advanced large language models (LLMs), to improve user interactions for iOS 19 and macOS 16, with a possible release in spring 2026. This upgraded Siri is designed to deliver a more conversational experience, similar to ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

As reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new assistant, known internally as "LLM Siri," is currently being tested within a separate app framework and will eventually replace the current Siri interface.

New Siri Features

The upgrade aims to enhance Siri's abilities, enabling it to handle more complex tasks and engage in more natural, human-like conversations. By integrating advanced AI models, Siri will be able to summarize and generate text, as well as offer finer control over third-party apps through App Intents. This development builds on the Apple Intelligence features introduced in iOS 18, which expanded Siri's functionality but is considered a stepping stone toward a larger AI transformation.

It's important to note that this feature currently relies on OpenAI's ChatGPT in iOS 18.2. However, with the upcoming update, ChatGPT will no longer be necessary.

Additionally, features to allow Siri to understand personal context and perform app actions are targeted for iOS 18.3 and subsequent versions.

Launch Timeline

Gurman reveals that the 'human-like Siri' will first be available as a standalone app on iPads, Macs, and iPhones, with plans to gradually replace the current version. The new Siri might be launched by 2025, potentially at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

By gradually rolling out improvements, Apple positions itself as a contender in the AI assistant space, attempting to integrate comprehensive functionalities in a way that aligns with its privacy-oriented philosophy. The new Siri will eventually replace the current interface.

In addition to the new Siri, Apple also plans to launch its iOS 19 version.

Additional Updates

Apple has introduced a new tracking feature called "Share Item Location." This tool is designed to help users easily track and recover lost or misplaced items. It lets you securely share the location of your AirTags or other Find My network devices with third parties, such as airlines or your friends and family. Additionally, you have the option to disable this feature as needed. Apple has always been one step ahead of its competitors, when it comes to personalisation.

Furthermore, as part of the iOS 18 update, Apple will also improve Siri's functionality by adding Apple Intelligence.
