Billionaire and Trump supporter Elon Musk acknowledged that Vice President Kamala Harris exceeded expectations during the first U.S. presidential debate, despite what he saw as unfair treatment of former President Donald Trump by the debate hosts.

"While I don't think the debate hosts were fair to @realDonaldTrump, @KamalaHarris exceeded most people's expectations tonight," Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the September 11 debate.

However, Musk clarified his continued support for Trump, emphasizing that when it comes to delivering results, Trump is the stronger candidate.

"That said, when it comes to getting things done, not just saying nice-sounding words, I strongly believe that Trump will do a far better job. After all, if Kamala can do great things, why hasn't she? Biden rarely shows up for work, so she's basically in charge already. The question comes down to this: do you want current trends to continue for 4 more years or do you want change?" Musk added.

The Tesla CEO also made a surprising comment directed at singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who had endorsed Harris. Swift posted an image with her cat and a statement signed off as "childless cat lady," a possible reference to remarks made by Trump's running mate, JD Vance.

In response, Musk humorously wrote, "Fine Taylor ... you win ... I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life."

Meanwhile, Wall Street remained unsettled following the contentious debate, which provided little clarity on key economic policies such as tariffs, taxes, and regulation. Betting markets shifted in Harris' favor, but the debate left investors unsure about how the race might impact future market trends. Some analysts noted Harris' stronger-than-expected performance, suggesting it could affect asset prices if her chances of winning improve.

Trump and Harris sparred over various topics including the economy, immigration, and Trump's ongoing legal battles, with both candidates vying for a defining moment in a closely contested election.
