Amazon
E-commerce giant Amazon, in a bid to combat the rising competition in the Indian market, is planning to deliver everyday essentials to customers within 15 minutes, the company's top official said.
Speaking to reporters during the company's flagship event, Smbhav happening in Delhi, Samir Kumar, country manager of Amazon India said that the firm will soon start the pilot project of quick delivery of products soon.
Pilot Project to Begin in Bengaluru
According to media reports, the pilot project to deliver products within 15 minutes will begin in Bengaluru later this month.
Earlier several reports suggested that Amazon had named this new initiative Tez. However, an official confirmation on this regard is yet to be made.
"We will be starting a pilot to give our customers a choice to get their everyday essentials in 15 min or less," said Kumar.
He added: "Our strategy has always focused on 'selection, value and convenience' and our vision is to build a large profitable business in India...while we focus on implementing our strategy to offer the largest selection at fastest speeds and greatest value to customers in every single pin-code across the country."
This is not the first time that a company is initiating a rapid delivery program to customers. Some of the noted previous initiatives include Zomato's Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Flipkart Minutes.
Catering to the Needs of Customers
The move from Amazon follows recent studies which suggested that customers need quick delivery of products rather than waiting for two or three days to receive them.
Experts had believed that quick e-commerce companies have slowly started to eat the share of major giants like Amazon and Flipkart, in the Indian online shopping quick commerce market which is currently valued at $6 billion.
"We already have millions of customers across India including Prime Members who trust us and will look forward to this convenience," added Kumar.
Reports suggest that Amazon will roll out this quick delivery option to other major cities after the successful pilot project in Bengaluru.
