South Korean tech giant Naver is set to revolutionize its services by integrating its self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its major platforms, including its search engine and shopping application.

This move is part of Naver's On-Service AI plan, which was unveiled at its tech conference, 'DAN24', in Seoul. The plan aims to enhance its major services with cutting-edge technology. The company's hyperscale AI model, HyperCLOVA X, will be incorporated into its search engine to provide more customized answers to users' queries.

In addition, Naver plans to launch a new AI briefing function in the first half of next year. This function will deliver summarized, AI-generated answers to user questions, along with sources to verify the credibility of the information. The service will initially be available in Korean, English, and Japanese upon its launch.

Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon stated, We showcased HyperCLOVA X last year and after a year of testing our generative AI products with our users, sellers, and business partners, we are now moving toward commercialisation.

AI in Shopping and Geospatial Technology

In the first half of next year, Naver will also release an AI shopping application, Naver plus store, which will feature an AI-powered shopping navigating function that helps users find products, promotion events, and benefits tailored to their own needs.

The company will also update its mobile map application with its geospatial AI technology next year to digitally recreate offline locations and offer more accurate information about various destinations on its map.

In a bid to foster the growth of the country's AI ecosystem, Naver plans to create an impact fund and invest a combined 1 trillion won over the next six years. This move is indicative of the growing trend of companies investing heavily in AI and machine learning technologies to enhance their services and products.

AI's Impact on Various Sectors

The integration of AI into various sectors is not a new phenomenon. For instance, AWS has been using generative AI to empower sales teams by integrating both structured and unstructured data from diverse sources. This has resulted in a comprehensive summary tailored for sellers, available on-demand in their CRM and proactively delivered through Slack based on upcoming meetings.

Similarly, the use of AI in countering disinformation has been explored. Social media companies employ machine learning algorithms to recommend content to users through curated feeds or other delivery mechanisms. A separate set of algorithms is trained to detect undesirable content, which is then penalized by recommendation algorithms.

In the field of journalism and media, AI has been used to create more video content, newsletters, and podcasts. This has been driven by the need to maximize attention and deliver consistent customer experiences.

The use of AI in journalism has also led to the development of new strategies for storytelling, including better explanation of complex stories, more solutions-oriented approaches, and more inspirational human stories.

The spread of AI technology has also led to predictions about the best and worst changes in digital life by 2035. Experts have expressed deep concerns about people's and society's overall well-being, but they also expect great benefits in health care, scientific advances, and education.
