In a significant move to revolutionize India's communication landscape, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced seven new initiatives on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. These initiatives, built on the three key pillars of security, affordability, and reliability, aim to transform how India connects, communicates, and enhances its digital security.
BSNL's renewed focus on delivering secure, affordable, and reliable connectivity to every corner of India is symbolized by its new logo. The logo, launched by Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, embodies BSNL's unwavering mission to bridge the digital divide. The bold tagline 'Connecting Bharat' underscores BSNL's commitment to offering a modern, reliable telecom network that connects both urban and rural India.
One of the key initiatives announced by BSNL is a spam-blocking solution that automatically filters out phishing attempts and malicious SMS. This creates a safer communication environment for users without the need to issue alerts to customers, ensuring seamless and secure communication for all users.
BSNL's Innovative Services
BSNL is also launching a first-of-its-kind seamless Wi-Fi roaming service for its FTTH (Fiber to the Home) customers. This service enables high-speed internet access at BSNL hotspots at no extra charge, thus minimizing data costs for users. This initiative is a significant step towards making high-speed internet access more affordable and accessible to the masses.
In addition to this, BSNL's fibre-based intranet TV service offers more than 500 live channels and Pay TV through its FTTH network. This service will be accessible for all BSNL FTTH subscribers without additional charges. The data used for TV viewing will not consume the FTTH data pack, making it a cost-effective solution for users.
In a groundbreaking move, BSNL has introduced reliable, low-latency, 5G connectivity for mining operations in partnership with C-DAC. This service leverages made-in-India equipment and BSNL's technological expertise to enable advanced AI and IoT applications in underground mines and large opencast mines. These applications require high-speed low latency connectivity for functions such as safety analytics, real-time remote control of AGVs, AR-enabled remote maintenance, fleet tracking, and optimization.
BSNL's Contribution to the Mining Industry
This initiative is particularly significant given the increasing demand for essential minerals that support global energy transitions, urbanization, and infrastructure development. The mining industry, projected to reach USD 2825.81 billion by 2028, is undergoing a digital transformation with the adoption of technologies like AI, IoT, and 5G connectivity. BSNL's 5G service for mining operations is a significant contribution to this digital revolution in the mining industry.
In addition to these initiatives, BSNL has also announced that it will not raise tariffs in the near future, focusing instead on consumer satisfaction and confidence. This stance is significant in the context of all private telecom operators in India, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, raising tariffs earlier this year.
BSNL's initiatives are a testament to the potential of digital technologies in transforming industries and bridging the digital divide. By focusing on security, affordability, and reliability, BSNL is not only enhancing India's digital security but also making high-speed internet access more accessible and affordable for all.
