India's benchmark stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are trading with volatility following a lower opening on Friday, tracking global cues as tensions in the Middle East continue to dampen investors' optimism.
The BSE Sensex opened at 82,244.25 and is trading at 82,523.66, up by 26 points or 0.03% as of 10:40 AM while the Nifty 50 opened at 25,181.90 and was trading flat at 25,191.25, down 0.23% or 59 points.
In the broader market on Nifty, most segments were in red trading flat to marginally lower.
In sectoral performance, except IT which is trading up by 0.48% and PSU Bank segment with 0.43% increase all other segments are trading flat or marginally down. Realty shares continue to be the biggest drag with 2.15% decline.
In early trading on the NSE, the top gainers include Maruti, up by 1.54% at ₹12,842.05, ONGC rising 1.49% at ₹296.40, SBILIFE increasing 1.16% at ₹1,826.50, Wipro gaining 0.95% at ₹535.20, and Tata Motors up 0.81% at ₹933.20.
On the losing side, the top losers include BPCL, down by 2.55% at ₹339.95, Shriram Finance dropping 1.98% at ₹3,342, M&M falling 1.95% at ₹3,068.70, Bajaj Finance declining 1.94% at ₹7,289.90, and Hero MotoCorp slipping 1.46% at ₹5,580.
The market breadth on the NSE indicates a mixed sentiment, with 2,646 stocks traded. Of these, 1,213 advanced, 1,344 declined, and 89 remained unchanged in early trading.
In broader Asia most Asian markets traded in green; Nikkei in Japan continued in positive territory at 38.675.58 adding 0.32%, Hang Seng surged 1.75% and South Korea's Kospi Composite index added 0.55%.
Geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East has continued to impact the markets with crude oil prices are hovering at a 4-week high and on supply risks. Recent ballistic missile attacks by Iran on Israel have heightened tensions, raising fears of possible disruptions in oil supplies from the region. The crude oil prices were muted on Friday however, markets still weigh in the impact of geopolitical tensions on the crude oil prices.
All three major Wall Street indices closed flat overnight ahead of job payroll report. At the close of trading on the NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.44%, the S&P 500 slipped by 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite edged down by 0.05%.
