UAE-based Lulu Group is investing $480 million to develop a shopping mall in Ahmedabad, which is touted to be the biggest of its kind in India.
Unveiling its investment plans in India, MA Yussuf Ali, chairman and managing director said that he is receiving help from both the central and state governments as the company continues expansion in India, as reported by ANI.
Shopping Mall to Create 3,000 Jobs
Ali went on and said that the new shopping mall in Ahmedabad is expected to create over 3,000 jobs.
The Lulu Group chairman added that he is happy to give jobs to the talented youth in India.
"India's biggest shopping mall is in Ahmedabad. We already got the land. I am getting full support from the central government, the Ministry of Commerce and all the ministries of the central government," said Ali.
He added: "This is one of the biggest projects that we inaugurated today. It is about 3,50,000 sq ft. 3,000 young boys and girls are working here. I am very happy to give employment to my fellow citizens."
Earlier, Ali had said that the construction of the mall would begin this year.
Lulu Continues Expansion in India
In September 2023, Ali said that the company is actively continuing its expansion in India by developing shopping malls and luxury hotels.
"We are going to construct one of the largest shopping malls in Ahmedabad and Chennai. Also, we are going to different states for shopping malls and food processing," said Ali.
Currently, Lulu Group has malls in six Indian cities including Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad, as well as, Kochi, Lucknow, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Meanwhile, Lulu also opened a hypermarket in Palakkad, Kerala, in December 2023.
