Maruti Suzuki, India's leading car manufacturer has cut the prices of its entry-level vehicles, Alto and S-Presso after the company witnessed an unexpected sales decline in August.
According to reports, the company has reduced the prices of S-Presso LXi by Rs.2,000, while the selling price of Alto K10 VXi petrol has been lowered by Rs.6,500.
Maruti Suzuki Sales Declined in August
On Sunday, the car manufacturer revealed that its total sales for August declined by 3.9 percent to 181,782 units, compared to the same month in the previous year.
Maruti Suzuki, in August, sold 145,570 units domestically and exported 26,003 vehicles.
The vehicle manufacturer added that the company's export of vehicles witnessed a 5.64 percent year-on-year rise in August.
The company noted that the sales of its most popular "mini" segment which includes cars like Alto and S-Presso declined by 12.78 percent in August, compared to the same period in 2023.
Additionally, the company's compact car segment, comprising vehicles like Baleno, Celerio, Swift, and Dzire also declined by 20 percent year-on-year in August.
Maruti Suzuki sold 58,051 units of compact cars in August, compared to 72,451 vehicles in the same month of the previous year.
Utility Car Segment Sales Rising
On a positive note, the company sold 62,684 cars under its utility vehicle segment in August, representing a rise of 6.70 percent rise compared to the same month in 2023.
The utility vehicle segment of Maruti Suzuki comprises cars including Fronx, Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Invicto.
On the other hand, the company sold 10,985 units of Eeco in August, marking a 7.36 percent year-on-year decline.
As Maruti Suzuki has slashed the prices of some of its popular brands, industry experts believe that sales figure is expected to rise in September.
