Ukraine is set to receive $800 million from the United States to restore its energy sector which faced significant damages during the Russian invasion, an official said.
Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister, made these remarks during her visit to Washington on August 31.
Ukraine's Power Facilities to Get Immediate Repair
Svyrydenko said that the $800 million which will be received from the US will be used to carry out immediate repairs to the country's power facilities, which have been heavily damaged by nearly two years due to Russian air strikes.
"We are deeply grateful for the support in constructing passive protection systems, as well as the $800 million financing package for the energy sector. During this visit, we provided a list of critical equipment necessary for immediate repairs," wrote Svyrydenko on her X page, formerly Twitter.
In August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had said that Russian shelling has destroyed 50 percent of the country's total electricity generation capacity.
Meanwhile, Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine's presidential office, said that the country's electricity infrastructure needs urgent repair and added that the help of the US plays a crucial role in resolving this issue.
"Ukraine's energy infrastructure urgently requires restoration, and in this context, our U.S. partners play a crucial role," said Yermak on Telegram.

Citing emergency officials, TASS News Agency reported that the fire at the Moscow refinery was assigned the highest level of complexity, and it requires additional units of officials to resolve the situation.
Meanwhile, international media outlets reported that the Russian forces are just a few kilometres from the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, a pivotal logistics hub used by Ukrainian armed forces.
